Expanding Circles starting soon!

Expanding Circles: The Topography of Belonging is a series of collective dance labs open to Bulkley Valley community members, which starts Oct. 24 and takes place over five months with weekly workshops running till March. It is the encore to last year's highly successful circles dance project.

Last October and November, circles involved 25 community members that produced a dance performance exploring the meaning of belonging in the Bulkley Valley. It involved men and women from different cultures, age groups and walks of life. A common theme connecting this diverse group was sense of place.

Supported by EmbraceBC and the Bulkley Valley Community Arts Council, Expanding Circles is a collective community art project that attempts to build on circles’ success by creating bridges and removing barriers to participation through dance and music.

Expanding Circles begins in October with weekly dance labs running through March. The project culminates in May, with two evening performances at the Della Herman Theatre. The performance will interweave dance, music and videography, with a commissioned sound score by a local musician and contributions by musician Nicole L’Orsa, videographer Taylor Fox, vocalist Gail Jenne and Vancouver-based dance artist Julie Lebel.

You are invited to participate in these collective creation dance labs with your fellow Bulkley Valley community members. No dance experience necessary, just a willingness to explore. We encourage people from all walks of life to come, ages 11 to seniors.
